Unit question: What role do people play in shaping the lives of others-today and historically?
Thinking about the video we watched in class, do you think colonization is good or bad? Explain your choice in 100 to 150 words.

ReplyDeleteI think that colonisation is good and bad. Good because if colonisation hadn't happened then allot of us would not be here today and we would not have the technology we have now. Bad because allot of villages and tribes lost their civilisation's and culture because conquerors conquered their land and destroyed their population. So in my opinion I would not say it was bad that people conquered land and I would not say it was good I would be in the middle because the good things and the bad things about conquering lands would probably be equal because, sure that led to having to do bad things to the people but we would not have discovered all of these wonderful things, such as culture, how other people thought, that the world was round and other ways of doing things that people on the other side o the world had not thought of.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I cannot say if colonize is good or bad because there are both positive and negative aspects towards this topic. The positive could be more knowledge wide in some cases the technology, architecture, farming methods and etc. More land would be found so more trades can be made. This is how some of the Europeans countries got wealthy.
The negatives would be that the civilization and beliefs would disappear. Some of the tribes would be destroyed and people would be killed, that will decrease the population of the people who lived there. New religion will be brought into the civilization which will make what they believe change. Colonize has a big impact to the language which the country speaks. If some of these haven't occur the world would be really different, the knowledge of human being might have not reached this spot if some of this has not happened. So the role of changing lives of other people is a big part of society, which i believe is needed.

ReplyDeletei think that colonization is good and bad and that it is imposible to pin it to either. on one thought its good becuase without it many of us would not be here today. but a bad thing is that many cultures and lives have been destroyed becuase of it. whenever new places were discoverd new lives were destroyed but also new information was obtained. without this information we would not know abot this world we might even still think the world was flat. colonization was a very important part of history and yet a part coverd with death and destruction and also new life and knowledge of a bigger world.

ReplyDeleteI think that colonization has a positive and a negative impact on our world today. The negative impact it gives us and our world is that a lot of the old cultures and monuments have been destroyed during the wars.Today Historians are able to find the old monuments and their information about these lost civilizations.
The positive impact about colonization is that the rich countries that ruled the poor countries developed them in terms of education, government and technology and also telecommunications.
Example:
Although the British colonized India and the Indians fought back to gain their freedom, but India today has a good English education which is an advantage to them.
I think that colonization helped certain countries like India, but in a case like the Incas and Mayans it caused more harm because the Europeans and Spanish destroyed their cultures.

But because the rich countires colonised the poor, many things were developed such as architecture, technology and food. If they didn't colonise we wouldn't have these kinds of things today which are very important.
The negetive impact is that many of the countries who colonised ruined the civilization of the colonised countries. This could have disapointed many people who came from colonised countries by their memories.
Nowhere days people play in shaping their lives of today and historical by gaining information, researching and finding out some clues like what we students are doing!

ReplyDeleteI think that colonization is good and bad for different reasons because it has caused our lives to be the way it is today.
The good reasons of colonization are, if it didn't happen we wouldn't have discovered that the earth was round, we wouldn't have found all the different countries/lands and wouldn't have discovered other people and their cultures, and a lot of new information to people in that time was dicovered.
The bad reasons of colonization are, lands were conquered by other countries and the cultures and population were destroyed, many lives were lost.
There are so may other reasons that colonization was bad and good. It is interesting to think about how life would be if lands weren't discovered, or if we thought the world was flat.

If it weren't for colonization, we would not have some technology we have to day, we would not have made incredible discoveries, like the ruins of many old civilizations. Colonization was also how most people came to power, taking the money from the people they conquered or taking their supplies. People discovered new and innovative ideas from old civilization through colonization.
But while people were conquering many lands, they ruhtlessly took what they wanted and would threaten or kill anyone that stands in their way, civilizations perished. The lives of many, which were once peaceful lives, became hard because of all the colonization that was happening.
Colonization is a positive and a negative, for without it and it's many journeys we would not have known so much, colonization brought us knowledge, but it brought harm to the lives of many.

It’s bad because a lot of civilizations were lost and the traditions might have not been pasted on to the future generation. Soon the culture and civilization die out. There were also a lot of lives that were lost while fighting over land and power. There were diseases that spread around many people, which was also bad.
At the same time it’s good because if there was no colonization there wouldn’t have been new discoveries and advanced technology which we use today. Colonization has made us speak some of the same languages and we have more different types of food, culture, traditions, beliefs and more.

ReplyDeleteColonization is bad and good because if there were no colonization in our time it would be different and maybe even worse and that the inquesition might not end because other countries don't know about it so they don't try to stop it.
But if colonization causes war and different areas gets destroyed and over taken. In wars many lives were lost and it may have caused plagues from the dead bodies. Colonization also cause great explorers and their crews to die and bad beliefs about water may have cause explorers to struggle to explore or may have not explored at all.
I think that colonization was good and bad. It was bad because alot of lives were lost in the fighting for power and land the tribes traditions cultures and civilizations were also lost. Their life style and language was lost too.
ReplyDeleteIt is good that colonization happened because if it didnt happen we might still be living in mountains and sacraficing people.We might have been doing surgery with termites as sewing kits. Our lives would have been totally different!

ReplyDeleteColonization destroys the culturs and beliefs of the ones which were there before.
For example- Before the Spanish and the Portuguese found South America the tribes like the Mayans, Incas and the Aztecs had a big community of their own. Each had their own beliefs,cultures, tradition, religion and ways of living.
The powerful European Countries came for money and to spread their beliefs but eventually they would slowly destroy the present communities' lifestyle. Then the two would fight which results as the death of many loved ones.
So I think Colonization is a bad thing because if the Europeans didn't come they would've been fine and the community would've been there for the future generations. The culture wouldn't have died out if the tribes didn't adapt to the new culture and accept it. By accepting and adpting to the new culture they forgot their own culture and the culture slowly faded out of their brains.

ReplyDeleteColonization in my opinion is a negative thing. When colonization started it killed many people because of others wants, and their lands gets taken over like the Inca's and Europeans for example: The reason why they conqured them was because they wanted the gold and silver the Inca's had and their foods and crops that they grow. If they hadnt killed lots of Inca's maybe nowdays there would be more future generations then there are now and where . Another bad thing about colonization is that it destroys other peoples/ tribe's culture, religion and or beliefs. The Inca's and Mayans sacrificed children on different occasions and after the Eurpeans came they then were not allowed to sacrifce any children any more which is not part of their beliefs.

ReplyDeleteI believe that Colonization is both good and bad. Good because it has brought people together so that we can live and work as one community even if we are from different parts of the world. It has also started our trade so that we can now trade with different nations for their goods. But bad because in doing this, civilizations have been wiped out or have lost their whole culture because people didn’t understand their ways.
